We are only 17 days away from college football games being played. To be exact, we're 412 hours -- but who's counting? -- away from kickoff as of the time this post is being published. Then the five month battle to find out who the best team in the country is will begin.
Who will that team be? Well, there are plenty of candidates, but in the CBSSports.com Preseason Top 30 -- which was voted on by CBSSports.com writers -- we're starting with LSU.

When comparing our poll to the Coaches Poll, you can see that our top ten teams are similar, but with a few exceptions.
We have USC ahead of Alabama and South Carolina ahead of Michigan. The Coaches Poll has it the other way. The other major difference is we have West Virginia making its way into the top ten, which is a spot the coaches gave to Arkansas.
