Diaz was informed Monday that he won't make the Astros' Opening Day roster, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Diaz's dismissal leaves James Hoyt and Jandel Gustave to compete for the final spot in the Astros bullpen. As a non-roster invitee, Diaz did well just to stick in contention for a roster spot through the final week of spring training. He'll head to Triple-A Fresno after compiling a 3.05 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 56 innings with Triple-A Louisville in the Reds' organization in 2016.
