Southpaw Tim Cooney, who made six starts for the Cardinals this season, has been shut down for the rest of the year with appendicitis, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Cooney managed one win and five no-decisions in those outings, but compiled a 3.16 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings.
