Phillies' Spencer Howard: Second-round pick by Phils

The Phillies have selected Howard with the 45th overall pick in the 2017 first-year player draft.

The Caly Poly product features an impressive four-pitch mix, with his fastball, slider and cutter all projecting to be average or better offerings in time. He has a sturdy 6-foot-3, 205-bound frame and repeats his delivery well, but there are questions about his ability to hold up in a starting role. Howard pitched out of the bullpen in 2016 and into 2017 before transitioning to the rotation.
