49ers' Christian Ponder: An option to start if QB change is made

A locker room source stated that "Ponder is the best quarterback on the roster," CSN Bay Area reports.

While the locker room source doesn't make the decisions for the 49ers, they did suggest that there is some support for Ponder to start within the locker room. The third-string quarterback has a similar skill set to Gabbert in that he doesn't take too many shots downfield and also possesses the ability to run the ball. Ponder does have a career completion percentage nearly four points higher than the current 49ers' starter, so he may address Gabbert's wild inaccuracy issue. Regardless of whoever Chip Kelly favors, it appears a change is looming after a 1-4 start.
