Legendary Brazilian soccer player Pele has been hospitalized in his home nation. The Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo said in a statement on Saturday that he underwent back surgery, specifically nerve root decompression, after being admitted on Monday with back pain. This comes two months after prostate surgery.
According to Globo Esporte, the medical procedure was needed to prevent potentially losing movement in his legs down the road. His pain is under control and he is expected to fully recover.
Pele, who won three World Cups with Brazil, is expected to leave the hospital on Monday.
