Scott Dixon goes airborne as car explodes on barrier in horrific crash at Indy 500
Dixon ran into the back of Jay Howard and somehow walked away from the wreck
Scott Dixon and Jay Howard collided between turns 1 and 2 at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, leaving both cars in pieces. Howard tapped the wall in turn 1 before losing control of his vehicle. As he was making his way to the low side of the track, pole sitter Scott Dixon went directly into the back of Howard's car, sending Dixon's car flying. The car actually landed on the safety barrier in the infield.

Somehow, both Dixon and Howard walked away from the wreck, Dixon immediately throwing his helmet in disgust. Dixon was running in the top 10 after starting on the pole for Sunday. Howard has been checked, cleared and released by the medical team on site.
USA Today Sports had a spectacular photo of Dixon going flying.

This is what was left of Dixon's car after the nasty wreck.
