Up-and-comer Daniil Medvedev's triumph over World No. 5 Stan Wawrinka certainly didn't last long. The 21-year-old Russian exited Wimbledon in the second round Wednesday, but not without taking shots at the umpire. Down 5-2 in the last set against Ruben Bemelmans, Medvedev asked that the umpire be replaced for bias. When his request was (naturally) denied and he lost 6-3, Medvedev took it out on the umpire herself, taking single coins out of his wallet and tossing them at her.

It was a bizarre moment, but not a unique one. According to Deadspin, Mevedev has accused umpires of bias before. At the Savannah Challenger in 2016, Medvedev claimed that umpire Sandy French, who is black, was favoring Donald Young, who is also black. It was said that Medvedev muttered "I know that you are friends. I am sure about it" about the two, per the Mirror. Medvedev was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct, and he should also expect punishment for this latest questioning of umpires' objectivity.

Medvedev has apologized for throwing the coins, saying "in the heat of the moment, I did a bad thing. I apologize for this." The 21 year old is undoubtedly still learning, and outbursts like this can be ascribed to his age, but he should learn to be a professional sooner rather than later.
