WWE Roadblock 2016 results: Rollins, Reigns team up; streak over; new champs
WWE Roadblock highlights also featured a surprise return and left plenty of questions for 2017
The final WWE pay-per-view of 2016 is now in the books and with it came the end of a historic streak, the suspension of a dynamic rivalry, a surprise return (but not the one you're hoping for), and a universal title picture that may well need the six weeks of time until Royal Rumble to see its direction clear up.
Below are full results from Roadblock: End of the Line along with some highlights from WWE.
Results
Tag Team Championship -- Sheamus & Cesaro def. The New Day (c) via pinfall to win the titles: Cesaro got the opportunity to dominate early, but Sheamus accidentally hitting Cesaro provided an opportunity for interference by New Day, including a Big Ending by Big E. Cesaro, however, kicked out, and thanks to a Brogue Kick from Sheamus to Big E on the outside, placed Kofi Kingston in the Sharpshooter. Just as Kingston began to tap out, Xavier Woods got the referee's attention. Cesaro then hit the Neutralizer only for Kingston to be saved at the last minute by Big E. Woods stepped in again to take the brunt of a Brogue Kick, allowing Kingston to hit the S.O.S. on Sheamus, who kicked out. A missed tag by Sheamus to Cesaro -- played off as purposeful by Cesaro -- had Kingston think Cesaro was the legal man, so he hit him with Trouble in Paradise. Seeing as Sheamus was actually the legal man, he sprang into action and immediately rolled up a surprised Kingston for the 1-2-3. New Day's WWE-record tag team title reign is over, ending with a tremendous match and a great "out" for the most over team in the company.

Sami Zayn def. Braun Strowman via survival: This match had a 10-minute time limit; Zayn only needed to last the full time in order to win. Strowman absolutely dominated Zayn through the first six minutes as Mick Foley began to walk down to th ering with a white towel. Strowman demanded Foley throw it into the ring to end the match, but Zayn begged him not to, stole it and threw it into the crowd. Still outside the ring, Zayn dove away from a charging Strowman, who threw his body into the ring post. Zayn avoided Strowman again as the big man crashed through the ringside barrier and one last time inside the ring into the turnbuckles. With 30 seconds left, Zayn climbed to the top rope and splashed Strowmanfor a two-count. He then hit the Helluva Kick just seconds before time expired to stay alive. It's a big win for Zayn, who will likely continue his feud with Strowman; a regular match should be up next.

Seth Rollins def. Chris Jericho via pinfall: Though the match was quite even throughout, Jericho maintained control early. A neckbreaker from the top rope and suicide dive through the ropes by Rollins briefly flipped momentum, but Y2J got it back with the Walls of Jericho. A missed frog splash by Rollins gave Jericho an opening for a Lionsault, but it only resulted in a count of two. Just as Rollins was poised to finish Jericho, Kevin Owens ran to the ring to interfere; Rollins pushed him off the apron, and Jericho rolled up Rollins but only got a two count due to the interference. After Jericho yelled at Owens, Rollins countered a Codebreaker into a Pedigree for the 1-2-3.

Cruiserweight Championship -- Rich Swan (c) def. T.J. Perkins (via pinfall) and The Brian Kendrick: Kendrick was knocked out of the ring early, and once he returned, Perkins knocked in the knee bar submission that nearly resulted in a fall. Perkins nearly got Swann to tap later with the same move until he released it when Swann reached the ropes (no disqualification rules for a triple threat match did not require the release). With newly found life, Swann hit spinning back kicks on Kendrick and then Perkins, whom he pinned to keep his belt.
Neville returns: After the match, a jacked Neville -- also sporting a full beard and scowl -- returned to WWE and appeared to be celebrating Swann's victory. Instead, Neville attacked Swann, thwarted interference by Perkins, and dominated both men by throwing them into the barrier outside the ring. Looks like there's a new member of the cruiserweight division.

Women's Championship (Iron Man Match) -- Charlotte Flair def. Sasha Banks (c) 2-1 in overtime: The first 10 minutes of the 30-minute timed match were nearly dead even with Sasha holding a slight advantage on Charlotte early. That was until Charlotte purposely tripped Sasha, who was standing on the apron, leading her to fall head-first into the steel steps outside the ring. Charlotte rolled her inside and pieced together some offense but struggled to land a fall, even after hitting Natural Selection. Eventually, Charlotte hit Natural Selection off the top rope to earn a pinfall with 11 minutes left in the match and take a 1-0 lead.
It took less than three minutes for Sasha to get back to even, scoring a roll-up pinning combination to knot things up at 1-1 with eight minutes to go. A missed moonsault by Charlotte allowed Sasha to lock in the Bank Statement, which led to a Charlotte submission and Sasha 2-1 lead with less than six minutes left.
Charlotte responded by working on Sasha's knee for a number of minutes in an effort to weaken it before attempting a submission, which she did with two minutes remaining in the match by first locking in the Figure Four Leg Lock. Charlotte converted it into a Figure Eight with 10 seconds left, and Sasha tapped out with just three seconds on the clock, leaving the match tied at 2-2 through regulation.
Just like the Iron Man Match from WrestleMania XII between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, this match continued under sudden death rules. Charlotte immediately attacked Sasha's knee again before the bell rang, while Sasha failed on two roll-up attempts early once the match restarted. With her nose bloodied, Sasha locked in the Bank Statement again, but Charlotte reversed it into a Figure Four. When Sasha failed to reach the ropes, Charlotte converted it into the Figure Eight and earned the submission in overtime to capture the title. It is the sixth time the belt has changed hands in five months, and Charlotte finishes 2016 with a 6-0 record in pay-per-view singles matches.

Universal Championship -- Roman Reigns def. Kevin Owens (c) via disqualification; Owens retains the title: The early portion of the match was contested outside the ring with Reigns taking it to Owens, but once the two entered the ring, Owens took the upper hand by keeping Reigns on the ground and verbally taunting him. The match picked up when Owens hit Reigns with a cannonball only for Reigns to respond immediately with a Superman Punch ... and another a few minutes later. Owens countered a superplex off the top rope only for Reigns to later counting a diving senton with two knees to Owens' back.
Outside the ring again, Owens set Reigns up on an announce table, climbed the barrier and hit a frog splash -- only for the table not to break. So what did Owens do? Frustrated, he climbed back up the barrier and hit a second frog splash, collapsing the table. Reigns barely beat the count back into the ring, but once he did, Owens hit a third frog splash -- this time from the top rope -- for a two count. Reigns bounced back with a sit-down powerbomb, but Owens thwarted a spear with a kick and Pop-Up Powerbomb; he only got a two count as Reigns placed his right foot onto the bottom rope, breaking up the pinfall.

Owens brought his title into the ring at that point, and while arguing with the referee, Reigns hit him with his spear but was unable to convert it into a pinfall. At that point, Jericho slid into the ring and darted his eyes between both participants. Jericho turned on Owens, hitting a Codebreaker and ending the match in a disqualification. Jericho then picked up the belt, went over to Owens and handed it to him, raising Owens' hand in victory before the two hugged and celebrated in the ring.

After the match ... Rollins' music hit, and he immediately ran down to the ring. The distraction allowed Reigns a free spear on Owens, while in the ring, Rollins hit the Pedigree on Jericho. Rollins then helped Reigns clear the remaining announce table outside the ring and the two teamed up for a Shield-style powerbomb on Jericho. Watching on as Owens slowly worked his way to the back, Rollins ran up the ramp and caught him. He and Reigns then teamed up against Owens, clearing the main announce table next to the stage and delivering one more powerbomb before Roadblock went off the air.
.@WWERollins + @WWERomanReigns = EVEN MORE BAD NEWS for @FightOwensFight!!
