2016 Ryder Cup odds, team pick: United States favored over Europe
Odds are out for Hazeltine, and the Americans are looking good
The Ryder Cup starts soon. It feels good to type those words. I'm going to type them again. The Ryder freaking Cup starts soon.
The European team is set, and it includes six rookies this time around. The United States squad has 11 of its 12 golfers with the 12th to be named this Sunday after the Tour Championship.
The U.S. team only includes one rookie (Brooks Koepka) at this point but could have one more (Justin Thomas or Daniel Berger) after the Tour Championship. Because of the experience advantage this U.S. team has over Europe -- and because this year's Ryder Cup is being played in the United States -- Las Vegas has made the Americans the favorite. Here are the odd,s according to Bovada.
- United States: -185 to win
- Europe: +145 to win
That means you have to bet $185 to win $100 if you're betting the U.S. whereas you can bet $100 to win $145 if you're betting on the Europeans.
This actually seems about right to me. The U.S. is the favorite. The U.S. should be the favorite. And the U.S. is going to win in a rout.
The European team just has too many holes for me to wager on them with any confidence whatsoever. Matthew Fitzpatrick? Rafael Cabrera-Bello? Chris Woods? Even Danny Willett? These are all question marks to me. Don't get me wrong, they are all terrific golfers, but I know what I'm getting with the U.S., and I do not totally know what I'm getting with the Europeans.
Maybe I'm completely missing it here, but the U.S. at -185 seems like a pretty good bet.
