The week after major championships never offers much movement in our top 18 as the best players are usually recovering from the grind of a big time tournament. Still, Patrick Reed is apparently on a mission to play 40 tournaments this year (and play them well) and we had some other slight movement at the bottom. Let's take a look at this week's power rankings but first a reminder of the parameters.

  1. Scope is last two months of tournaments
  2. We value different things but will take into account wins, top 10s and
  3. If you haven't played, you don't get ranked (i.e. Tiger Woods)
  4. Recency matters
  5. PGA Tour will be main focus but bigger European events will be factored in

1. Dustin Johnson (Last week: 1): No movement for D.J. this week. His summer has still been the best summer, though. We won't see him again until the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Official World Golf Ranking: 2

2. Jason Day (2): Day will take a big break as well as he's unfortunately skipping out on the Olympics. OWGR: 1

3. Henrik Stenson (3): Stenson was off last week but will be back at it in Rio this week for Sweden. OWGR: 5

4. Jordan Spieth (5): Spieth moves up as Branden Grace falls out of the top five. No Olympics for him although we did get his own cardboard cutout. OWGR: 3

5. Phil Mickelson (6): I wish Mickelson had qualified for the Olympics. You know he would have gone. No Travelers Championship for him last week either. OWGR: 13

6. Brooks Koepka (7): Another top 10 for Koepka at the Travelers Championship. He wants to put that Ryder Cup slot on ice. OWGR: 15

7. Sergio Garcia (8): I'm excited to watch Garcia win silver at Rio. That's definitely going to happen. No, I'm kidding. Sergio is the best. He's had a terrific summer and seems to be getting better with age. OWGR: 11

8. Patrick Reed (11): Reed gets a bump into the top 10 this week after notching his third consecutive top 12. OWGR: 14

9. Branden Grace (4): Missed cut at Travelers is not good. OWGR: 10

10. Jimmy Walker (10): Walker stays put after his PGA Championship win. He did not play the Travelers Championship. OWGR: 17

11. Daniel Summerhays (12): Summerhays followed his top five at the PGA Championship with a top 12 at the Travelers. He's a fun bet to make some noise in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. OWGR: 53

12. Zach Johnson (9): A T47 for Johnson at Travelers. Pretty bland considering that strength of field (which was not great). OWGR: 22

13. Russell Knox (NR): Top 30s at The Open Championship and PGA Championship before winning last week at Travelers. The best part of all was the hat toss. OWGR: 18

14. Rory McIlroy (13): We won't see McIlroy again for a few weeks after the last major of the season. OWGR: 4

15. Matt Kuchar (14): Kuchar followed a missed cut at Baltusrol with a top 20 at the Travelers. Unfortunately for him, Knox slipped ahead of him and McIlroy. OWGR: 20

16. Adam Scott (15): Scott will lay low until the FedEx Cup Playoffs. OWGR: 7

16. Steve Stricker (16): Stricker's fifth major (the John Deere Classic which he has won three times) will take place this week opposite the Olympics. OWGR: 85

17. Tyrrell Hatton (18): A top 20 for Hatton at the Travelers Championship after top 10s at The Open and the PGA Championship. Impressive stuff from the Englishman. OWGR: 51

18. Jim Furyk (18): I have a hard and fast rule that if you shoot 58 in a tournament, you automatically get ranked. William McGirt gets the boot, but I can't not take Furyk. OWGR: 23
