Tiger Woods score, highlights: Solid at Hero World Challenge, J.B. Holmes leads
How did Tiger Woods do today? What did he shoot? A look at the Hero World Challenge leaderboard
Tiger Woods shot a 1-over 73 in his return to golf at the Hero World Challenge on Thursday in the Bahamas. To be frank, he was the only story that actually mattered on Day 1. Woods got his score to 4 under through eight holes early on his round but faltered late with a couple of ugly double bogeys. It was about what we should have expected from a man who had not played competitively for nearly 16 months.
Contrary to popular belief, there actually is a tournament going on outside of what Woods did, and J.B. Holmes leads that tournament with Hideki Matsuyama nipping at his heels. Holmes shot a 8-under 64 on Thursday while Matsuyama followed right behind with a 7-under 65 including a 30 on the back nine.
Let's take a look at the top five in this 18-man field after Round 1.
1. J.B. Holmes (8 under) -- Holmes started flirting with the 62 Justin Rose shot in the final round here last year when he made eagle at the par-5 11th hole to get to 6 under. He closed with five pars and two birdies, though, and took advantage of his preposterous length off the tee at this wide-open, easy track.
2. Hideki Matsuyama (7 under) -- Matsuyama is not to be messed with right now. You could make a pretty easy argument that he is the hottest player alive right now.

3. Dustin Johnson (6 under)
-- D.J. had six birdies and an eagle on Thursday, and the big hitter was just feasting on this gettable track. Feasting! He has not missed a beat since his historic 2015-16 season ended.
T4. Henrik Stenson (5 under) -- Jordan Spieth called him the best ball-striker in the world recently. It's good to see Stenson playing well after he sat out for a stretch leading up to the Ryder Cup with a leg injury. I'm here for the Johnson-Stenson duel on Sunday.
T4. Matt Kuchar (5 under) -- Kuchar actually led for awhile on Thursday, but his best moment of the day came when he mocked Spieth's post-round routine of patting his balding-head down after removing his cap. Take a look.

T4. Louis Oosthuizen (5 under) -- I want to watch Oosthuizen hit balls for forever. I could also watch this for hours.
Louis' lofty lob means no longer a problem. https://t.co/EIFLUpmicf

He could have pretty easily been T2 if not for a double bogey on the 17th hole. Either way, he will be in one of the final pairings on Friday.
