Jack Nicklaus and son plan to attend Donald Trump's inauguration in January
Jack Nicklaus has been a supporter of Donald Trump so it makes sense that he would go to Washington
Jack Nicklaus and President-elect Donald Trump clearly have a tight-knit relationship. Nicklaus endorsed Trump earlier this year when many others in the golf world started backpedaling.
"I like what Donald has done," Nicklaus told CBS. "He's turning America upside-down. [He's] awakening the country. Is he as smooth and as politically correct as he should be? Probably not. But he'll learn. He's not stupid. He didn't get where he was being dumb. I like the guy. He's a good man. If he's the one that's on the ticket, then I'll be voting for him. "
Trump is of course entrenched in this world because of his many business ventures. The 2017 Women's U.S. Open will be held at one of his courses, and a future Open Championship could be as well. Love him or hate him, Trump is not going anywhere, which means golfers will have to start choosing sides at some point.
It's pretty clear which side Nicklaus is on.
"Donald called and said, 'I want you to bring that kid that can really talk,'" Nicklaus told the Associated Press recently. "Every time he talks to Barbara and me he says, 'That is the best speech I ever heard. He called personally to ask me to come [to the inauguration]."
As the AP noted, "that kid" is Nicklaus' son Jack Nicklaus II. And "the best speech I ever heard" was at Nicklaus' Congressional Gold Medal ceremony. It starts at 32:05 below.
