Firestone Country Club played significantly more difficult on Friday than it had on Thursday at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but that didn't bother Jason Day, who posted a 1-under 69 to move to 4 under and take a one stroke lead over David Lingmerth.

Day came into Friday three shots back of William McGirt, but a 74 on Friday from McGirt dropped him back to 2 under, two back of Day. The world's No. 1 player had only two blemishes on his card on Friday, a bogey on No. 10, and with birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 moved him into the lead alone before closing with a bogey on 18.

Day was one of only 13 players of the 58 remaining in the field to finish with an under par score on Friday, led by David Lingmerth and K.T. Kim posting 67s for the low rounds of the day.

Day is in search of his fourth win of the season and second at a WGC event -- he won the WGC Match Play in March. Considering the field featured seven of the world's top 10 players, Day has little in the way of experience near him at the top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend.

Adam Scott and Jordan Spieth, both at 1 under, are the only other players in the top 10 at the WGC-Bridgestone that are also in the top 10 of the world rankings. The next highest ranked player within five strokes of Day is No. 29 Kevin Kisner.
