Tiger Woods commits to playing Farmers Insurance Open and Honda Classic
Woods has added a second and third PGA Tour event to his early 2017 schedule
Tiger Woods will begin his official 2016-17 PGA Tour season at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines later this month. He has won at Torrey Pines a record eight times in his career. Woods also committed to the Honda Classic in March, which means he has at least one PGA Tour event scheduled for each of the first three months of 2017 so far.
"We're thrilled our fans will have the opportunity to see Tiger in addition to what is already a very strong field for the Farmers Insurance Open," Century Club CEO Peter Ripa said in a statement.
"He has experienced tremendous success at Torrey Pines and in our tournament, and we couldn't think of a better place for him to start the year. Tiger's presence will add to a deep and talented field that includes many of the top stars in the game as well as some exciting up-and-coming players."
Woods won this event in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2013. He also won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in 2008. This will be his first PGA Tour appearance of 2017. He is also slated to play the Genesis Open at Riviera later in February. Woods is coming off a performance in December at the Hero World Challenge in which he led the field in birdies made with 24.
The Farmers Insurance Open will be held from Jan. 26-29, and Phil Mickelson also recently committed to play. The Honda Classic is set for February 23-26 and will be played in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
