Tiger Woods will play an interesting role at the 2016 Ryder Cup
How Big Cat could affect the outcome at Hazeltine
The Ryder Cup is just over five weeks away (which seems crazy but is absolutely true). The European team has taken shape, and after this week, the U.S. team will have eight members.
U.S. captain Davis Love III has some difficult and important captain's picks to make in the upcoming weeks, but he'll have some help from his vice captains.
One of those vice captains is Tiger Woods. Love recently revealed that Woods has been texting him pairings and picks this summer. On the Ryder Cup blog, Love spoke more extensively about what role Woods will play as he misses his second straight Ryder Cup.
"Tiger was on the task force, he'll be a future captain, so he's got to be a part of the decision-making process of this whole new, Ryder Cup committee," Love told RyderCup.com. "Tiger is more interested in the strategy side of it -- rounding out the team with picks, or making small groups, making pairings. He's our tactician more than anything. And he's really been helpful on how to prepare for a major championship.
"He's like me. He's excited about it, he doesn't sleep much, he puts a lot of thought into it. There's a reason why he's arguably one of the greatest players to ever play the game. He knows how to prepare, he knows how to think his way around a golf course, around a golf tournament. He's committed to being a part of it and he means it."
I love it. Woods' love for video games and warfare tactics is pretty well known. If he can channel that towards an American resurgence in the Ryder Cup, Love's squad will be all the better for it.
