The mystery of Randy Choate's Wikipedia page: Solved

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

You will recall the news that the Cardinals recently signed veteran LOOGY Randy Choate to a three-year pact. Not long after said news, a sketchy Internet rumor circulated that Choate was of pop-culture royalty.

This, for a time, was within the unimpeachable pages of Wikipedia before the dark forces of quality assurance scrubbed it from history ...

For those in need of an action-video reminder, there's this ...

That, friends, is Mabel Choate, mother of Randy Choate.

Of course, those among you with a slavish devotion to the bounds of reality will point out that it's impossible for a fictional character -- one Mabel Choate -- to conceive, carry and give birth to an actual person -- one Randy Choate. This doesn't merit a response, mostly because I don't have one.

But then there's this bit of grim reportage ...

OK, fine.

Instead, I'll assume that Randy Choate's grandfather was central to a circumstance of frontier justice most foul.
