Felix Hernandez to skip World Baseball Classic

In large part because of his pending contract extension, Mariners right-hander (and Venezuela native) Felix Hernandez will skip the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Here's the tweet of interest:
Per @arreazaortega, Felix now skipping WBC, because of new contract and "pressure" from M's.

Hernandez, of course, is working toward a seven-year, $175 million contract extension with Seattle. With that pact not yet finalized, the risks of taking part in the WBC would seem to outweigh the rewards.
Hernandez had previously been named to Venezuela's provisional WBC roster.
