On Tuesday night, the Giants kicked around the Pirates (SF 15, PIT 4) to such an extent that the hosts were eventually resigned to sending backup catcher Erik Kratz to the mound to pitch the ninth. Kratz wound up working a scoreless frame, starting things off by whiffing Giants first baseman Brandon Belt.

Take a look:

As is so often the case when a position player takes the bump, there's a "um, fastball or change-up?" debate to be had. Whatever the case, Mr. Belt was badly fooled on this offering from Mr. Kratz. Not a pitcher, they say. Mr. Belt, do you have any thoughts on this recent baseball event?

Well played, Brandon Belt. That's some impressive self-effacement from a guy who's batting .305/.414/.538 this year. So, yes, apparently that is a hitter.
