Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz (blood clots) had successful surgery Monday to remove the anterior half of his first rib.

The rookie hurler was hospitalized with blood clots in his arm over the weekend. The whole situation sounds a lot like thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition that has significantly impacted the careers of a number of MLB pitchers, including Chris Carpenter, Josh Beckett and Jaime Garcia. The Braves indicated that Foltynewicz will be released from the hospital Thursday and will be on blood thinners for at least six weeks. His season is certainly over at this point.
