Mets' Collins after latest loss: 'The only thing left is human sacrifice'
Following Thursday's loss, their third in a row, Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters: "The only thing left is human sacrifice, so we're going to pick somebody."
On Thursday afternoon, the Cubs wrapped up their three-game sweep of the Mets in Citi Field (CHI 6, NYM 1). It was New York's third consecutive loss and 10th in their past 14 games.
All those losses can be blamed on the offense. The Mets scored one run total in the series against Chicago and have scored two runs or fewer in 12 of their past 14 games. Yikes. It doesn't matter how good your pitching is -- the Mets have a great rotation, after all -- you can't win with that little run support.
Manager Terry Collins is starting to run out of ideas for how to improve his offense, so he tossed out this idea on Thursday:

That's a joke! I think it's a joke, anyway. The Mets are really desperate for answers, you know. And besides, Collins might not want to joke about that. Managers are often the ones sacrificed to the baseball gods when a team is playing poorly.
At one point this season, the Mets won 11 conscutive games and had the best record in baseball. They've gone 27-37 and been outscored by 45 runs since the 11-game win streak. They're 3 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot.
