Only one MLB owner voted against the new CBA
It was Rays owner Stuart Sternberg and he cited divide between large and small markets
Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that the new collective bargaining agreement was officially ratified on Tuesday night, meaning there's no threat of a work stoppage in baseball for the next five years. An interesting tidbit?
The owners vote was 29-1.
One team was not in favor of the new collective bargaining agreement. That "nay" vote came from Rays owner Stuart Sternberg.
What's interesting is that the new CBA is viewed as very owner-friendly in terms of international spending. Plus, look at the details here, there are increased taxes on higher-spending teams while the larger-market teams have to sacrifice more than smaller-market teams when signing qualifying offer free agents. And there's still significant revenue sharing.
Apparently Sternberg doesn't think the needle moved enough in the direction of the smaller markets, because it definitely moved.
