On Tuesday, the benches cleared in the Royals-Orioles affair in Baltimore thanks to a spat between Manny Machado and Yordano Ventura.

For a refresher, here you go:

So Machado was nailed for four games and Ventura has been suspended for nine games.

As for the Ventura part, MLB senior vice president of standards and on-field operations Joe Garagiola Jr. announced that it was determined Ventura's pitch was intentional.

Also, as to Ventura getting more games for a pitch than a punch, let's keep in mind we aren't discussing things on an equal playing field. Ventura is a starting pitcher and only works once every five days as opposed to every day. As such, he's basically pushed back two starts while Machado is missing four of his starts.

The Royals enter Thursday on a seven-game losing streak and have fallen to 2 1/2 games back in the AL Central behind the Indians.

Ventura, 25, is 4-4 with a 5.32 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 44 strikeouts in 66 innings this season. He leads the AL with 35 walks and has hit three batters.
