Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (hand) returns to lineup
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

Third baseman Yunel Escobar returned to the Nationals' starting lineup for Game 2 of the team's doubleheader on Sunday against the Phillies, hitting third.

Escobar sat out of Game 1 after being hit on the hand during Friday night's game, an result that caused the third baseman's hand to swell, but did not leave any broken bones, per X-rays.

Escobar is hitting .342 in June to raise his average to .322 on the season.

Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar continues raking in Sunday win
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

It doesn't come as a huge surprise that Bryce Harper and Paul Goldschmidt rank among the top five in the National League in batting average this season.

Yunel Escobar? That's another matter.

The Nationals infielder, who hasn't batted over .300 since his rookie year of 2007, showed why he is among the best in baseball this year by slamming two more hits, including a three-run homer to cap a nine-run first inning Sunday.

Escobar has eight hits in his last 14 at-bats with five RBI. His .331 average is at its highest point since May 19.
