Nationals' Yunel Escobar exits game vs. Phillies with leg injury
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Nationals infielder Yunel Escobar was forced to exit Friday's game against the Phillies with a leg injury

Escobar, who started the game at third base, hit a ground ball in the bottom of the fourth and appeared to tweak something while running to first base. When he was taken out, Danny Espinosa moved to third and Dan Uggla came in at second.

Escobar's game ended 1 for 3 with a single.

After the game, Escobar was diagnosed with a strained groin and he will be reevaluated Saturday, reports MASN.

Nationals' Yunel Escobar hits leadoff home run Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Nationals third baseman Yunel Escobar went 1 for 4 Thursday, leading off the bottom of the first inning with a home run in his team's 5-2 win over the Phillies.

The home run, which was Escobar's first of the season, came off Phillies lefty Cole Hamels. He hit just one of his seven home runs off a southpaw last season. Escobar saw a seven-game hitting streak come to an end Wednesday but was able to immediately turn things around one night later. He's 11 of 39 with five walks over 10 games.

"[Thursday], I felt like I played with the Nationals that I thought all along I'd play with," Escobar said in Spanish after the game, per the Washington Post. "I felt good. I was happy with the team. We were ahead, they tied the game and we didn't lower our heads and kept going. That was essential. That showed that we keep fighting and we've still got confidence, especially against a pitcher like Cole Hamels."

Nats move Escobar to leadoff spot, drop Taylor to ninth in order
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Nationals manager Matt Williams made a few changes to his batting order Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Williams moved Yunel Escobar from the No. 2 spot in the lineup into the leadoff spot, where Michael Taylor was positioned the first seven games. Taylor dropped to ninth in the lineup Tuesday.

Outfielder Jayson Werth, who made his season debut Monday after beginning the season on the disabled list, moved up from the cleanup spot to second in the lineup.

Escobar has a .367 on-base percentage through seven games. He has a career .353 on-base percentage in 222 games batting first.

Nationals' Yunel Escobar succeeding out of No. 2 spot
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Nationals infielder Yunel Escobar has hit .304/.385/.391 in the team's first six games of the season while serving as Washington's third baseman and No. 2 batter.

Escobar was expected to play second base regularly for the Nationals coming into the season, but the injury to Anthony Rendon has put him at the hot corner over the first week of play, where he'll likely continue to play until Rendon returns. Escobar is playing third base and batting second again in Monday's series opener in Boston.

Nats' Rendon to open on DL after third opinion confirms MCL sprain
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Nationals manager Matt Williams said Wednesday the third opinion on third baseman Anthony Rendon's injured left knee confirmed the first two opinions -- a sprained MCL.

Williams said Rendon will continue to rehab the injury, but delivered the bad news that Rendon will begin the season on the disabled list. Williams said Rendon has a week-to-week type of injury, and sources told CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman that Rendon could be back in three weeks.

General manager Mike Rizzo did not put a timetable on Rendon's return.

“It's positive news,” Rizzo told Heyman. “All three (doctors) agreed. There's nothing seriously wrong, and it should remedy itself. Some turn the corner quickly and with other guys it takes a few weeks. But he will be fine.”

Yunel Escobar is expected to fill in at third base during Rendon's absence, which means Danny Espinosa will likely replace Escobar at second base. Dan Uggla could also be an option, if he makes the Opening Day roster. Ryan Zimmerman is not expected to move back to third base with Rendon sidelined.
