Brewers place OF Carlos Gomez on DL; recall Jason Rogers
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

The Brewers officially placed outfielder Carlos Gomez on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 16 due to a right hamstring strain, according to the team's official website. Milwaukee recalled infielder/outfielder Jason Rogers from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take Gomez's spot on the roster.

Gomez returned to Milwaukee on Thursday to receive further examination and a cortisone injection. Gomez batted .235 (8 for 34) with one home run, four doubles and six RBI in eight games before the injury. The Brewers will likely use Gerardo Parra as the team's regular center fielder until Gomez is ready to return.

Brewers to place Carlos Gomez (hamstring) on 15-day DL
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Brewers will place outfielder Carlos Gomez on the 15-day disabled list due to a hamstring injury, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Tests have found that Gomez has a small "defect," or tear, in his hamstring. He has received a cortisone shot and will not be eligible to return until the end of April. The Brewers will likely use Gerardo Parra as the team's regular center fielder until Gomez is ready to return.

"When you talk about a leadoff guy who can do what he can do, and in center field, it's concerning," manager Ron Roenicke said Thursday. "We know offensively we need to get things going and we're losing a guy who has a chance to do a ton for you. When you lose Carlos, you lose a piece that's got a chance to really get things going."

Brewers' Parra fills in for injured Carlos Gomez on Thursday
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez was not in the starting lineup Thursday against the Cardinals after injuring his hamstring Wednesday. On Thursday, Gerardo Parra became the first player besides Gomez to start in center field for Milwaukee this season.

Gomez is batting .235 (8 for 34) with one home run, four doubles and six RBI in eight games. Parra, who is batting .176 (3 for 17) with no RBI and two doubles in seven games, has a .333 average (3 for 9) in his career against John Lackey, who is starting for St. Louis.

Gomez is headed back to Milwaukee on Thursday for more tests, per MLB.com. After Thursday's game, the Brewers head to Pittsburgh for a three-game series.

"Certainly we're not going to see him out there [Friday] or the next day, so it is," manager Ron Roenicke said. "When you talk about a leadoff guy who can do what he can do, and in center field, yeah, it's concerning. We know offensively we need to get things going, and we're losing a guy who has a chance to do a ton for you offensively."

Gomez said is hamstring is "more sore" Thursday than after injuring it Wednesday, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He added the soreness is low on his hamstring and near the back of the knee.
