Yusmeiro Petit could have more in store
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

When the Giants bumped Tim Lincecum to the bullpen earlier this week, they weren't clear about whether or not it would be just a one-turn thing, making Petit's role going forward just as unclear.

But he showed Monday why you should be rooting for him to stick.

Granted, he won't always be as good as he was against the Rockies, allowing one run on four hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in six innings, but in seven starts to finish out last season, he was certainly serviceable, compiling a 3.59 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 8.4 strikeouts per nine innings.

I've always wondered why he hasn't gotten more of a look as a starter. A former prospect with strong numbers out of the bullpen who clearly has the endurance and pitch variety to fill in from time to time deserves better than a lifetime banishment to long relief. Fortunately, at age 29, his career hasn't passed him by yet.

I wouldn't expect more than serviceable numbers from Petit as a starter, which means in Rotisserie leagues, you're probably staying away. But his relief pitcher eligibility makes him an intriguing sleeper in Head-to-Head points leagues, provided he sticks in the starting rotation.

Tim Lincecum to be skipped in rotation
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum will be replaced in the team's rotation for his next start, according to MLB.com.

Lincecum will be available out of the bullpen during this period. It's unclear whether Lincecum will miss one start, or if the move will last longer. He'll be replaced by Yusmeiro Petit Thursday. Lincecum has a 4.64 ERA over 145 1/3 innings.

Tim Lincecum could be skipped
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum could be skipped in the rotation his next time through, according to the San Francisco Chronicle

Manager Bruce Bochy said he'll consider the decision internally. Lincecum struggled Saturday, tossing just 2 2/3 innings while giving up six runs. Lincecum admitted that his struggles aren't all due to mechanical issues. "My brain is a little bit in the way," Lincecum said. It's unclear whether Lincecum will make his next start at this time.

Tim Lincecum knocked around Saturday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum had a tough start Saturday against the Nationals.

Lincecum allowed six runs, four earned, on six hits over 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two and walked four during the outing. Lincecum got off to a tough start. Denard Span tripled in the top of the first inning. Lincecum then gave up a walk and a run-scoring single. Though he was able to induce a double-play against Adam LaRoche, another run still managed to come across. The second inning proved to be tough as well. Span singled in a run to start off the scoring during the inning. Anthony Rendon should have been thrown out to end the threat, but Pablo Sandoval’s throwing error kept the Nationals in business. They would score two more runs in the inning, both were unearned due to the error. Lincecum wound up giving up a solo home run in the third inning. He was pulled after allowing a double to the next batter.

With the loss, Lincecum dropped to 10-9. He’ll take on the Rockies in his next start.

Tim Lincecum needs only five innings to pick up 10th win
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum only logged five innings on Sunday against the Phillies, but it was enough for the win. He scattered two runs on seven hits over five innings to improve to 10-8 on the season. He walked four and struck out two in 97 pitches, 51 for strikes.

Over his last three starts covering 14 1/3 innings, Lincecum has allowed 11 earned runs. He owns a 4.48 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP over 142 2/3 innings of work. His next start will come Saturday in Washington.
