Giants' Bochy on keeping Justin Maxwell in lineup: 'He's earned it'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Giants outfielder Justin Maxwell earned his fourth straight start Friday against the Rockies.

He is batting .417 (5 for 12) with one triple, one home run and three RBI in his last four games. He also had the game-winning hit in the 10th inning Thursday against the Dodgers.

"Right now with the way he's playing, he's earned it," manager Bruce Bochy said, per CSN Bay Area. "I like his at-bats, and not just the hit to win the game, but the quality of the at-bats has been very good. I look at the patience he's shown, particularly with two strikes. He's not panicking. He's quiet up there and not expanding the zone. He's keeping his composure up there. He's not chasing."

Giants OF Justin Maxwell's pinch-hit single brings home win
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Giants outfielder Justin Maxwell drove in the only run of Thursday's game against the Padres, singling in the 12th inning to give his team a 1-0 win.

The Giants had a man on second and one out in the 12th inning thanks to a fielding error, and after recording the second out of the inning, the Padres chose to intentionally walk Gregor Blanco to bring up the pinch hitter. Maxwell's single to center field delivered the only run of the game.

"I was just trying to hit the ball hard," Maxwell said after the game, per the Associated Press. "He made some tough pitches and I faced him a few years ago so I kind of knew what he threw. When (Brandon) Crawford got on base there, then they walked Blanco in front of me, so I was ready to hit."

He's now 2 for 7 in three games this season.

Giants' Brandon Belt (groin) out of starting lineup Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Belt left Tuesday's game with a groin injury and was scheduled to undergo an MRI Wednesday. With the first baseman sidelined, catcher Buster Posey will shift to first base and Hector Sanchez will enter the game at catcher.

The Giants will also start Matt Duffy at second base and Justin Maxwell in right field Wednesday, sending Joe Panik and Gregor Blanco to the bench.
