Chris Dominguez earns spot on Opening Day roster
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Reds infielder Chris Dominguez was informed Wednesday that he has made the team's 25-man roster for Opening Day, MLB.com reports.

"Certainly the offense stood out with the power and the extra-base hits," manager Bryan Price said. "His defense in the last six weeks has really greatly improved, particularly in the infield. And he brings energy into everything he does, from the drills outside to a pinch-hit at-bat to coming in the last three innings of a spring training game."

Dominguez hit .316/.322/.596 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 57 spring at-bats. The versatile bench player saw at least 15 appearances each at first base, third base and shortstop as well as in left field and right field with Triple-A Fresno last season.

Dominguez joins outfielder Brennan Boesch and pitchers Jason Marquis and Kevin Gregg as nonroster invitees to earn spots on the Opening Day roster.

Reds' Brennan Boesch wrapping up strong spring
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Outfielder Brennan Boesch has been one of the surprises for the Reds in spring training.

Boesch is hitting .372 with three home runs and 10 RBI. He's also earned praise for his baserunning and defense in center field.

It appears that Boesch has earned a spot on the Reds' roster, but he'll likely start the season on the bench in a reserve role, per the Cincinnati Enquirer's John Fay.

Reds OF Brennan Boesch likely to make 25-man roster
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Reds outfielder Brennan Boesch is expected to make the team's initial 25-man roster after outfielder Jason Bourgeois suffered a fractured shoulder this weekend, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Manager Bryan Price indicated he's been pleased with Boesch's work in center, setting the nonroster invitee to serve as a reserve outfielder for the team. He has excelled at the plate this spring, going 9 for 21 with two home runs and five RBI. Boesch saw limited action with the Angels in 2014, hitting .187/.203/.293 in 75 at-bats.

Reds' Price: Both Bourgeois, Boesch 'could help us'
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Reds manager Bryan Price indicated Wednesday that outfielders Jason Bourgeios and Brennan Boesch are playing well and one could stick on the roster despite the team already likely to carry two other players capable of backing up the team's starters in the outfield, MLB.com reports.

"Along with the starters, you have two guys there that are capable of playing the outfield very well and then you have to look between Jason Bourgeois and Brennan Boesch, that group," Price said. "There's a good chance at least one of those guys would be on the club as well at this point. They're both playing well and both could help us. I don't want to use the word 'surplus,' but we could have a rather large group of guys that, even if it's not their primary position, they're capable of playing the outfield very well."

Bourgeois is 5 for 15 with one home run in six spring games, while Boesch is 7 of 14 with two home runs and five RBI in six games.

Reds' Brennan Boesch to see time at first base this spring
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Reds manager Bryan Price indicated Friday that outfielder Brennan Boesch would see time at all three outfield spots as well as at first base as he competes for a roster spot this spring, MLB.com reports.

"We already know he's a terrific player," Price said of Boesch, who has never played first base professionally. "He kind of got banged up and lost his way a little bit, but I think he feels -- and we feel -- that he's back on top of his game, and maybe his best days are ahead of him."

Boesch said he doesn't see the battle for a reserve outfield role as a "competition."

"I only care about the competition against the pitcher, and that's really as basic as I keep it," Boesch said. "You aren't competing against other players. We're all on the same side here. We're all wearing Red jerseys. Let the chips fall where they may."

Boesch struggled in limited time with the Angels in 2014 but hit .332/.381/.636 with 25 home runs, 85 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 374 at-bats with Triple-A Salt Lake.
