Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro expects to return to the lineup within days, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

 "Soon," Scutaro told the Chronicle Monday. "Tomorrow. Next day...depends on how finger reacts (from day to day)."

Scutaro has been sidelined since June 11 with mallet finger.

Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro took batting practice prior to Saturday's game for the first time since being diagnosed with mallet finger, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Scutaro will be reevaluated next week and the club will decide if he can play through the injury then.

Scutaro took some swings in an indoor cage Friday. The Giants have not yet determined if he'll need to go on the disabled list.

Manager Bruce Bochy told the Mercury News that Scutaro will get fitted for custom brace on his finger when the club returns to San Francisco from a road trip on June 17. Bochy will then determine if a stint on the disabled list is needed. Scutaro hit .332/.388/.444 with two homers and 15 RBI before getting hurt.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated Thursday that second baseman Marco Scutaro, who was out of Thursday's lineup against the Pirates, is unlikely to play this weekend, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports.

Scutaro has been diagnosed with "mallet finger," an injury that is expected to take six-to-eight weeks to heal, although Scutaro wants to try and play through the injury.
