The Red Sox optioned hurler Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket following his win in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday against the Rays, WEEI.com reports.

Aceves improved to 4-1 on the season with five innings of one-run ball in a start cut short due to a rain delay. His ERA is at 5.05.

Red Sox starter Alfredo Aceves was given the ball for the first game of a doubleheader at home against the Rays Tuesday. Aceves' start was cut short due to a nearly three-hour rain delay, Boston's second-longest delay of the season.

Still, Aceves pitched well during his five innings and 75 pitches. He gave up just one earned run on Luke Scott's RBI double in the second inning. Aceves surrendered just three base hits and walked three batters with two strikeouts. His ERA is at 5.05.

Aceves, 30, improved to 4-1 with the win and made his sixth start of the season. He has gone 3-0 in his last three outings with three runs allowed over a span of 17 innings.

It seems likely that Aceves will make another start for Boston at some point. Aceves has been used as a spot starter for the most part and doesn't have his next outing set.

The news has been expected for a few days, so the move should not come as a surprise. Aceves will face the Rays' normal lineup, plus prospect Wil Myers. Aceves has a 5.58 ERA in 30 2/3 innings in the majors. 

The Boston Red Sox have announced the scheduled pitching matchups for Tuesday's doubleheader against Tampa Bay, the Boston Herald reports Monday. 

Alfredo Aceves will get the ball for the make-up game of April 12's rainout. That game will begin at 1:05 p.m. Felix Doubront will then take the hill in the nightcap beginning at 7:05. 

The Red Sox have tabbed Alfredo Aceves as the scheduled starter for one of the doubleheader games against the Rays Tuesday, the Boston Herald reports Sunday. 

Aceves was sent back to Triple-A Pawtucket after his last start at Tampa Bay. He won that start and has gone 3-1 with a 5.58 ERA this season in eight appearances and five starts.
