Indians' T.J. House, Zach McAllister win rotation spots
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Indians have named Zach McAllister the No. 4 starter, lining him up to pitch the team's home opener, and T.J. House the No. 5 starter, USA Today reports.

McAllister and House were part of a heated competion for the team's two open rotation spots this spring and earned a leg up when Danny Salazar was optioned earlier this week. Manager Terry Francona announced the projected rotation before Sunday's spring game.

Indians pitcher Zach McAllister fans nine in outing Saturday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Indians pitcher Zach McAllister went five innings Saturday against the Brewers, allowing two runs on six hits with nine strikeouts. McAllister, who is expected to make one more start before Opening Day, touched 97 mph with his fastball in the appearance, according to Cleveland.com.

"He's been impressive and he's been doing it all spring," said Francona. "He's not just throwing strikes, he's down in the zone when he wants to and then he can elevate with some velocity. I think his hard work is really paying off."

McAllister has felt he always had the added velocity.

"Throughout my career I've always felt I've had a little more (velocity) in there if I could maintain it," said McAllister. "For whatever reason, whether it's being more consistent with my delivery or my arm action, I'm just trusting that when I let it go it's going to go where I want it to go. I'm not trying to place anything."

Salazar demoted; McAllister, House, Tomlin will compete for final spots
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

The Indians have optioned right-hander Danny Salazar to Triple-A Columbus, just a day removed from a dreadful Cactus League outing, according to the Plain Dealer.

Salazar coughed up seven runs -- six earned -- on six hits and no walks while striking out six over 3 1/3 innings of work against the Reds. The 25-year-old posted a whopping 8.18 ERA through 11 innings this spring.

"I don't know. The stuff is definitely there. It's not there yet consistently, whether he's locating or following a pitch up with two pitches in a row," manager Terry Francona said after Salazar's outing on Thursday. "Again, we'll keep working at it -- that's for darn sure -- but the results weren't the kind of what we're looking for."

The demotion narrows Zach McAllister, T.J. House and Josh Tomlin down to the two final spots in the rotation. House and Tomlin have options, while McAllister is out of options and could be in line for one of those two spots, per the Plain Dealer.

Indians pitcher Zach McAllister continues bid for rotation spot
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Indians pitcher Zach McAllister tossed four innings Monday, allowing just one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts for the Tribe. He has now recorded 15 strikeouts this spring and feeling strong on the mound, reports MLB.com.

"I felt good. I'm happy with where I'm at right now," McAllister said. "I'm very happy with my [command]. I think it's carried over from what I did in August in Triple-A and in September in the big leagues, as far as being really aggressive with all my pitches."

Manager Terry Francona also liked his performance Monday.

"[He was] good," Francona said. "He threw his fastball down and, off it, threw some good splits. A couple good breaking balls. ... To his credit, he comes ready. He works so hard that he comes out of the chute throwing pretty hard and it's not like he's overthrowing. He just prepares so well."

Indians' Fracona on McAllister: 'I thought he was pretty good'
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Indians pitcher Zach McAllister allowed one run on three hits in two innings while striking out three in Tuesday's Cactus League opener, and manager Terry Francona was pleased with his performance, MLB.com reports.

"He was actually pretty good," Francona said. "He gave up the two-out hit, but I thought he was down in the zone, showed good arm strength and used all his pitches. I thought he was pretty good."

McAllister is out of options and competing for the fifth spot in the rotation this spring.
