Cubs starting pitcher Travis Wood saw his streak of nine straight quality starts to open the season end Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the Reds.

Wood allowed a run on three hits and two walks through the first five innings but seemed to run out of gas in the sixth. He walked the first batter then allowed four runs on four hits before being pulled.

He allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings, while striking out five and throwing 69 of 115 pitches for strikes. Wood (4-3) takes a 2.73 ERA into his next start, Thursday against the White Sox. 

Cubs starter Travis Wood turned in a solid performance but did not factor into the decision Sunday afternoon against the Mets.

Wood, who made his ninth start of the season, pitched five scoreless innings before surrendering a run-scoring single to David Wright in the sixth and a two-run home run to Juan Lagares in the seventh. He was charged with three runs and five hits over seven innings of work. He struck out three, walked two and also helped his cause with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Wood has not allowed more than three runs in a start this season. He is scheduled to make his next start Saturday at Cincinnati. He gave up two runs and four hits over 6 1/3 innings of work in his previous meeting against the Reds on April 22.

Cubs starter Travis Wood saw more than enough run support in his outing against the Rockies on Monday night. He worked seven scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while striking out two in a 9-1 win.

The left-hander gave up a single in the second and another one to his counterpart -- Juan Nicasio -- the following frame. He faced just two over the minimum over his final four frames.

Wood, who walked three, threw 58 of his 98 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 2.03 while collecting his fourth win.

The 26-year-old is scheduled to take the mound next on Sunday against the Mets.
