Cardinals' Holliday progresses in rehab to throwing, hitting off tee
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday, who has been sidelined since June 9 due to a tear in his right quadriceps, said his leg is getting “better” and “stronger," according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

While he has yet to start running, he has been able to throw and hit off a tee.

“We’re not putting a lot of pressure on him to rush,” manager Mike Matheny said. “He’ll be back when he’s ready.”

Cardinals place LF Matt Holliday on 15-day DL with quad strain
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

The Cardinals have placed left fielder Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain, the team announced on Tuesday. Holliday injured the quad in Monday's game.

Manager Mike Matheny said Holliday was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain, and he will be re-evaluated in two weeks, according to Fox Sports Midwest.

The loss is a big blow to the Cardinals. Holliday was batting .303 and currently ranks fourth in the National League with a .417 on-base percentage.

In Holliday's absence, Peter Bourjos, Jon Jay and Randal Grichuk could all see playing time in left field.

To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, right-hander Miguel Socolovich has been recalled from Triple-A Memphis.
