Yankees first baseman Lyle Overbay hit his eighth home run with two outs in the 11th inning of Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rays.

Overbay broke a tie game with a solo home run off reliever Josh Lueke. He finished 1 for 4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Overbay is hitting .255 with 28 RBI in 161 at-bats.

"He's done it for us all year, and he's a big reason why we are where we're at," Joe Girardi said. "Big at-bats for us all day long and a big home run to win it."

With Mark Teixeira is due back as early as Friday, so Overbay's days as the starting first baseman are ending. 

"I know it's going to happen," Overbay told ESPN. "I want [Teixeira] back. He's real good, and he's going to give us a good chance. I just hope that I can coexist with him."

With Mark Teixeira set to return from the disabled list in the coming weeks, Yankees first baseman Lyle Overbay hopes to make a case for more playing time once Teixeira returns.

"I'm not too worried. I would like to see if I can coexist here," Overbay told MLB.com Thursday. "I like it. This is fun. I was on the other side, and you don't get to experience this. I'm very surprised; it was a good surprise, but I'm very surprised at how good these guys are in the clubhouse and as far as being teammates and stuff."

Overbay has a .250/.286/.467 slash line with seven home runs and 25 RBI. Of his 38 hits this season, 18 have been for extra bases. Overbay, who homered Monday, has been held with out a hit in his last nine at-bats.

Overbay also added a single later in the game. He finished the day 2 for 5. Overbay is hitting .264/.301/.493 in 144 at-bats. He'll face Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez Tuesday.
