Since consulting with a specialist about his health in New York in mid-April during a road series against the Yankees, Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez has been thriving offensively. He's batting .347 since the mid-April series, with five home runs, seven doubles and 17 RBI in that 24-game stretch.

"I was having trouble getting the bat through the zone (early in the season)," Chavez said to The Arizona Republic. "I was just kind of sputtering a little bit. I knew on the schedule that I was going there (New York), so I felt comfortable that I was going to go in there and get some good work. Talking with (the training staff), they were all on board with one of them coming to see what happens so they could do what we’ve been doing. It’s really helped out."

Chavez said the key to him remaining successful is making sure he doesn't push himself too hard.

"Recovery is a big part of what I need to do," Chavez said. "Gibby (manager Kirk Gibson), he’s communicated with me. What do you want to do? What should we do? How should we handle this? He’s been really good about it, too."

Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez continued his solid run Friday against the Marlins, as he went 4 for 5 with a home run and two RBI in a 9-2 win.

Chavez has three straight multi-hit games, with five RBI, two walks and two extra-base hits during that span. He has raised his batting average to .337, while receiving the majority of his playing time against right-handed pitching.  

Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez entered Wednesday's contest against the Braves batting .345 with four homers and 12 RBI in his previous 19 games. He told MLB.com that a trip to New York in mid-April helped him get on track offensively.

"I wasn't feeling that great at the beginning of the year," Chavez said. "Then when we went to New York, that's when it changed."

The 35-year-old asked strength and conditioning coach Nate Shaw to visit with the Yankees' staff to learn some of the techniques they used on his back, which has bothered him over the last few seasons.

"They spent an hour showing him certain things that help me out, and we've done it ever since," Chavez said. "Thank goodness he's been able to duplicate it, and it's kept my back healthy. It's been feeling good, the fact that I can do it with someone here daily, it's really a huge factor for me."

Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez entered Monday's game against Atlanta with a .286 batting average after going 1 for 4 with a run Sunday against Philadelphia. 

Chavez has recorded at least one base hit in six of the seven games he's played in May. Chavez has gone 9 for 23 (.391) over that stretch with five doubles and four RBI. He's even stolen a base.

Chavez is batting .400 (6 for 15) with three doubles, three RBI and four runs in four May games. His batting average has gone from .241 to .275 in that span.
