Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer not worried about transition to new team
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

New Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer doesn't believe the transition to Citi Field will be as drastic as many believe it to be.

"I've had to [switch to] a lot of home ballparks, from the Metrodome to Target Field, Target Field to Coors Field and now to Citi Field," Cuddyer said. "The last transition taught me that your approach can stay the same. It doesn't matter what ballpark you're in, as long as you keep that hitting approach, you can take that approach that I've been able to hone to pretty much any stadium in the big leagues."

Cuddyer hit .332 in 2014 with 10 home runs and 31 RBI in 190 plate appearances.

Mets' Cuddyer: Approach won't change despite leaving Coors Field
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Like many batters, Coors Field was a boon for veteran outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who is now with the Mets after spending the last three seasons with the Rockies. Cuddyer has a .323/.387/.583/.970 slash line in 139 career games at Coors Field.

Cuddyer's success in Colorado is no surprise seeing how Coors is one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the majors. But even though he now calls cavernous Citi Field home, Cuddyer isn't worried about a major drop-off in production, per NJ.com.

"I definitely think that approach and that confidence is still going to be there," Cuddyer said. "You never can guarantee the numbers. You can't guarantee production. The process is still going to be there. I've been able to hone that where I can continue it, I think."

Mets GM Sandy Alderson delves into reasons for 'quiet' offseason
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

While the Mets have been linked to trade rumors involving Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond, the team has had a relatively quiet offseason. The Mets' top signings have been Michael Cuddyer and John Mayberry Jr.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson did his best Monday to explain why the team hasn't been overly active this offseason.

"We expect to take the next step forward as well," Alderson said on MLB Network on Monday, per NJ.com. We won 79 games last year, which was an improvement over the year before but we need to take a bigger jump next season. One of the reasons we've been quiet in the offseason is that we have quality players at every position. They're not all proven above-average major league players, but we're at the point now where we have to give them an opportunity to perform.

"We've got players with the potential to improve us by 10 games, which is what we need. So we're comfortable going into spring training and excited actually to see those players and see what kind of step forward they take and whether that can translate into 10 or 12 games for us in the win column."

Cuddyer would have taken Rockies offer, if Mets deal wasn't available
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

New Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer assured Tuesday the injuries that limited him to 49 games in 2014 with the Rockies are no longer an issue.

"I feel outstanding," the 35-year-old Cuddyer said. "The last month of the season I was at full strength. None of my injuries are chronic injuries."

Cuddyer also told reporters Tuesday that if the Mets deal didn't come together Monday, then he would have accepted the Rockies' one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer. Cuddyer instead signed a two-year, $21 million deal with the Mets.

Mets targeted Cuddyer since they feel ready to compete in 2015
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Although the Mets lost their 2015 first-round pick as a result of signing veteran Michael Cuddyer, who was given a qualifying offer by the Rockies last week, they feel it was worth it since Cuddyer could be a piece the team needs to be competitive next season.

"Certainly we value our draft picks and would like to hold on to them, but at the same time we're looking to win," Mets assistant general manager John Ricco, per NJ.com. "We decided in this case the value of Michael Cuddyer was worth it.

"We're looking to turn the corner here and compete in 2015. I think this is a message that we're going to be aggressive right out of the docks. We had a guy we liked and we went out and got him."

The Mets signed Cuddyer for his versatility to play in the outfield and first base. They also view him as protection in the lineup for third baseman David Wright.

"He is a proven offensive threat who also brings versatility in the field with the ability to play multiple positions," general manager Sandy Alderson said.
