Cubs' Byrd homers in spring debut: Marlon Byrd homered in his Cubs debut Thursday, one of five home runs in Chicago's 16-hit attack that opened the exhibition season with a 9-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics. "Marlon's a professional," manager Lou Piniella said. "He's a hard worker. He's got a good way about him. The players like him." Signing Byrd to play center field also let Kosuke Fukudome return to right. That's where moody Milton Bradley played last season as part of an experiment gone bad.

Fantasy Analysis
Byrd has pop and speed and is a decent sleeper in deeper leagues this season. He will be an unquestioned starter this season, which gives you at least some certainty of playing time and at-bats, even if you cannot be sure of his production away from hitter-friendly Texas.
