Reds OF Marlon Byrd playing his role in team batting slump
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The team batting slump that has ravaged the Reds has hit outfielder Marlon Byrd hard as well.

Byrd has been scuffling for two weeks, during which time he has just five hits in 35 at-bats. He is currently on a 1-for-17 slide.

He has generally remained productive, however. Byrd has six home runs and 15 RBI in May, but his overall slash line on the year is at .207/.283/.430. He has fanned 42 times in just 135 at-bats.

Marlon Byrd drives in three, reaches four times in Reds' win
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Reds left fielder Marlon Byrd reached base all four times he came to the plate in Thursday's win over San Francisco.

Byrd had two hits and two walks. He hit a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning.

"The last at-bat with (Sergio) Romo, I was praying he didn't throw a fastball or that sweeping slider you just can't touch," Byrd said, per MLB.com. "He just left it out over the plate. I put a good swing on it."

Byrd increased his average to .226 and hit his eighth homer of the year. His three RBI gave him 22 for the season.

Reds' Marlon Byrd homers in third straight game Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Reds left fielder Marlon Byrd found himself batting second for the second straight game Wednesday and delivered yet again, going 2 for 4 with a solo home run in his team's 3-0 win over the Pirates.

Byrd has collected two hits, including one home run, in each of his last three games, and he even kicked in his first stolen base of the season Wednesday. His fifth-inning homer would be the final scoring in the game, giving starter Mike Leake plenty of breathing room while he spun an eight-inning gem.

Byrd has hit .207/.237/.402 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 92 at-bats.
