Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa scratched from start on Tuesday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa has been scratched from his scheduled start on Tuesday against the Reds with a cut on his hand, according to The Denver Post.

De La Rosa is dealing with a cut on his left middle finger, which showed up before his last start. He plans to make his next scheduled start on Saturday.

"I felt something wet on my hand. I looked down and it was blood," De La Rosa said. "It was hard. You saw the game. I didn't have command."

De La Rosa also missed a start earlier in the season while dealing with a groin injury. The veteran pitcher is 1-2 with a 6.51 ERA in 27 2/3 innings of work this season. Chris Rusin will be called up to take his place on Tuesday.

Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa becomes team's all-time K leader
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa made a bit of history in the team's 7-3 win over the Phillies on Thursday. The left-hander pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out five, and became the Rockies' all-time leader in strikeouts. He passed Ubaldo Jimenez with his 774th career punchout.

"You look at his career and how he stacks up against Rockies pitchers in this franchise's history," manager Walt Weiss said, per MLB.com. "He's right there at the top. This is just another number we have to prove that."

De La Rosa labored in this one, throwing 108 pitches (63 strikes) in the no-decision, as he couldn't make it out of the fifth. He allowed an RBI single in the third, and then he surrendered a solo home run to Ryan Howard as part of a two-run fifth inning.

"De La started the game with a tear in his finger," catcher Michael McKenry said. "He was bleeding on the ball in the bullpen, and it was tough for him today. And he battled."

This was a step backwards for the veteran left-hander, after he twirled 7 1/3 shutout innings in his last start. His ERA sits at a hefty 6.51 mark as he is scheduled to make his next start Monday in Cincinnati.

Rockies' Jorge De La Rosa downplays groin issue
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa delivered a gem Saturday but had to come out of the start with pain in his left groin on an injury suffered during a fielding play in the eighth inning, MLB.com reports.

De La Rosa caught the spike of his left shoe in the grass, causing the injury. He left after 7 1/3 scoreless innings having allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out three in 95 pitches. He downplayed the issue after the game.

"When I hurt something, I feel I don't try to do too much," De La Rosa said. "I'll just fix this thing and get ready for my next start."

The pitcher had struggled in his first four starts before delivering an excellent performance Saturday and lowering his ERA to 6.56 in 23 1/3 innings.

"I've been pitching in this game for a long time," De La Rosa said. "I know what I need to have success. I know I wasn't pitching good. I know a lot of people were worried about it. But I don't worry about it, at all. I know I'm a better pitcher than I was, and I proved that tonight."

Manager Walt Weiss was "hopeful" that De La Rosa would be able to make his next start.

Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa shuts down Dodgers lineup
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa was absolutely dominant against the Dodgers on Saturday. The veteran left-hander allowed just two hits in 7 1/3 scoreless innings, as the Rockies picked up the 7-1 victory. He threw 62 of his 95 pitches for strikes as he kept a dangerous Dodgers lineup quiet.

De La Rosa (1-2) gave up a double and a single, struck out three and walked none as he dropped his ERA to 6.56. He will try to keep the momentum on his side when he takes the mound Thursday against the Phillies.
