Rockies LHP Jorge De La Rosa has encouraging Saturday start
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Rockies southpaw Jorge De La Rosa certainly made progress Saturday night despite being limited to five innings.

De La Rosa, who was clobbered for seven runs on nine hits in two innings in his 2015 debut Monday after coming off a groin injury, worked his way through give against the Giants. He yielded two runs on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. His current 11.57 ERA looks mighty fine compared to the 31.50 with which he entered the game.

"I thought he looked like himself," manager Walt Weiss said after the game, per MLB.com. "He hadn't really been built up all that much, so we were thinking about 90 pitches would be about his max."

The lefty settled down after allowing a run-scoring double to Buster Posey in the first. He yielded one hit in the next two innings and a home run to Andrew Susac in the fourth before escaping a jam in the fifth.

"I feel much better, I was mixing all my pitches pretty good," De La Rosa said. "I stayed in control. More calm and made better pitches today. Kept the ball down. I think that was the key today."

De La Rosa will make his third start of the year Friday against San Diego.

Rockies P Jorge De La Rosa looks to rebound after disastrous first star
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer

Rockies starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa got knock around in his first start of the season Monday but says it was just a matter of adjusting his pitch location, reports the Denver Post.

"I left the ball up. I got hit hard. I have to do better," De La Rosa said.

The left hander, who began the season on the disabled list with a groin injury, was tagged for nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits in just two innings in his 2015 debut.

"He was almost too strong," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "The velocity was up. He was trying to go harder and harder and the ball kept getting elevated."

Rockies' De La Rosa pins poor season debut on being 'really excited'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Rockies starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa made his season debut Monday against the Padres after missing the start of the season due to a groin injury. Unfortunately, it was a forgettable evening for the veteran left-handed pitcher.

De La Rosa was roughed up for nine runs (seven) earned on nine hits and one walk in two innings.

"He got ambushed there, and I think it made it tougher to find a rhythm, especially after being out for so long," manager Walt Weiss said, per MLB.com.

De La Rosa blames his struggles on perhaps being a little too antsy to finally make his season debut.

"It's my first start," De La Rosa said. "Been pitching in Triple-A, but it's not the same. I was really excited. Hope I can be more calm next time and get better.

"I was overthrowing a lot. Got excited and was trying to throw as hard as I can. You can't make outs if you don't have command. It happened today. My command wasn't good.

"When I tried to throw in, the ball was in the middle. When I tried to throw away, it ran to the middle, too. I think I can fix it. My command wasn't there. I made really bad pitches today, and they hit it really good."

Rockies P Jorge De La Rosa rocked in loss to Padres
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa's season debut went about as poorly as possible.

On Monday, De La Rosa allowed nine runs — eight earned — against the Padres in a 14-3 loss. De La Rosa was absent to start the season due to a groin injury. He was only able to go two innings against San Diego.

He struck out three batters and walked one. De La Rosa's ERA following his first game of the year is now 36.00.

De La Rosa's next projected start is on Saturday against the Giants.

Rockies activate Jorge De La Rosa, option Scott Oberg
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Rockies activated pitcher Jorge De La Rosa from the 15-day disabled list Monday, optioning pitcher Scott Oberg to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move, the Denver Post reports.

De La Rosa will make his season debut in the opener of his team's home series against the Padres Monday. Oberg allowed three earned runs on three solo home runs in his 2 2/3 innings of action with the Rockies.
