  • K-Rod struggling to get hitters to miss: Mark Kotsay hit a two-run homer with one out in the eighth against Francisco Rodriguez to give the Padres a 2-0 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. Rodriguez (0-3) started the eighth and retired pinch-hitter Jesus Guzman before allowing Will Venable's single and Kotsay's first home run of the season. "I've just seen Frankie too often to know that that breaking ball is devastating against right-handed hitters," said Padres manager Bud Black, who was the Angels' pitching coach when Rodriguez came up in 2002. "It was just one of those calls at that point against Frankie. Kots was a better matchup."

    Fantasy Analysis
K-Rod has not been his usual lights out self in 2012. He's struggled mightily lately, posting a 9.35 ERA and .297 opponents' batting average in his last 10 games (8 2/3 innings). He's 0-3 with one blown save in that span. The problem for K-Rod is getting opponents to swing and miss. During his 10-game slide, opponents have swung ad miss on just 7 percent of K-Rod's offerings, which is below the norm. K-Rod does have four holds in his last 10 outings, so it hasn't been all bad. There's no talk of him losing his setup role, so K-Rod still has Fantasy appeal in leagues that reward for holds.

  • May 14, 2012: Batista's 7 shutout innings lead Mets
Miguel Batista pitched seven shutout innings of four-hit ball and Daniel Murphy supplied the offense, sending the surprising New York Mets to a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.
May 14, 2012: Overshadowed former teammates Wright, Beltran playing like MVPs so far
With good reason, Josh Hamilton is hogging all the headlines right now, just as -- again, with good reason -- Matt Kemp did through much of April. In fact, if MVP voting was held right now, those would be the two winners in landslide fashion. But make no mistake about it: Kemp has company in the NL, in the form of former teammates David Wright and Carlos Beltran.

May 3, 2012: Brewers convinced luck will turn in first year AP (After Prince)
Life After Prince isn't all happy days and ice cream sundaes ... Milwaukee ditched ice cream in the clubhouse. Far from making players cranky, Scott Miller says the Brewers are staying cool and awaiting their annual surge.
