Phillies P Jerome Williams gives up 4 runs in loss
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams allowed four earned runs on eight hits in Sunday afternoon's 4-1 loss to the Rockies.

Williams recorded four strikeouts and zero walks on eight hits in five innings pitched. Two of the hits he allowed were home runs. Williams has now given up 12 runs over his past three games. Manager Ryne Sandberg has found a pattern in his last three starts, according to MLB.com.

"We've got to start keeping an eye on him in the fifth instead of the sixth," Sandberg said. "Sometimes it's a combination of elevating the ball as the game goes on and then missing with location. But yeah, elevation of the pitches have usually been the things that are biting him."

Williams' ERA is now 5.49 for the season.

His next start is projected for Friday against the Giants.

Phillies SP Jerome Williams takes fourth loss on Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Phillies starter Jerome Williams struggled through five innings in the loss to the Rockies on Thursday. Williams allowed five runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out none. He threw 75 pitches, with 53 going for strikes.

He got touched up for a three-run third inning thanks to a couple of run-scoring singles from Troy Tulowitzki and Brandon Barnes. He then served up a two-run home run to catcher Mike McKenry in the fifth inning.

"I don't know," Williams said about his struggles, per MLB.com. "I think I was making some quality pitches. Kind of just trying to find the strike zone. If I was behind in the count, I'm trying to do my job, you know? Trying to get back in the count. I think I had three walks today. That's unacceptable."

This marks the fifth consecutive start in which Williams (3-4) was unable to pitch more than five innings. He holds a 5.44 ERA as he heads into his next start, scheduled for Tuesday in New York against the Mets.

Phillies SP Jerome Williams earns third win on Saturday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Phillies starter Jerome Williams battled the weather to earn his third win of the season on Saturday. Williams pitched five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. He struck out four and didn't issue a walk. He threw 55 of his 75 pitches for strikes as the Phillies beat the Diamondbacks 7-5.

Williams sat through a rain delay between the third and fourth innings that lasted nearly 90 minutes.

"No hesitation at all," Williams said about coming back out,per MLB.com. "My arm is durable enough to go out there and pitch, even with the delay. I just wanted to go back out there and help the guys out."

Staged to an early 4-0 lead, Williams (3-3, 5.02 ERA) gave up a run in the fourth and then served up a two-run home run to Paul Goldschmidt in the top of the fifth to draw the D-Backs to a 4-3 deficit. But he left with the lead in tact, and the bullpen was able to preserve the victory. He is scheduled to make his next start on Thursday in Colorado.
