Adam LaRoche ready to roll against Phillies
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche has returned to the lineup Wednesday in Philadelphia after missing one game with a back problem.

LaRoche hopes to emerge from a slump that has limited him to just five hits in his last 33 at-bats.

Adam LaRoche's breakout continues
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

As I mentioned in my latest Rankings Review, where I touch on several of the changes I made to my rest-of-season rankings, Adam LaRoche's transformation has gone largely unnoticed this season.

Yeah, everyone can see he's batting .306 (19 for 62) with six home runs and a 1.096 OPS in August, and some might remember he's been a strong finisher in the past. But I'm talking about something that's been going on all season.

I'm talking about a career-high walk rate and a career-low strikeout rate. OK, so he technically had a better strikeout rate as a 25-year-old platoon player in 2005, but you get the idea: dramatically improved discipline.

For as many ways as players regress in their mid-30s, they do typically improve in that one area. Even though his batting average is now a perfectly sustainable .272 thanks to a horrendous July, LaRoche still has a .376 on-base percentage. He's averaged about as many Head-to-Head points per game this year (3.13) as Freddie Freeman (3.17).

Given his history as a strong finisher, I'd plan to stick with him the rest of the way.

Adam LaRoche belts walk off home run against D-Backs
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche knocked a walk off home run Monday against the Diamondbacks.

LaRoche had a tough time getting things going early on. Over his first four plate appearances, LaRoche flew out, lined out and struck out twice. He turned things around in his fifth at-bat. In the 11th inning, LaRoche worked a five-pitch at-bat against Will Harris. On the final pitch, he hit a 79 mph curveball out to right for a walk off blast. LaRoche finished 1 for 5, with one run scored and one RBI.

Adam LaRoche slugs 18th home run Saturday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche went 1 for 3 with a walk and a two-run home run in his team's 4-3 win over the Pirates Saturday.

LaRoche tied the game with his two-run shot after the Nationals entered the bottom of the eighth down 2-0. It was his fifth home run of the month as he continues to enjoy an excellent August. LaRoche owns a .276/.377/.470 line with 18 home runs and 66 RBI in 370 at-bats.
