The Blue Jays transferred Sergio Santos to the 60-day disabled list Sunday to make room on the roster for the addition of Thad Weber, MLB.com reports. 

Santos had minor surgery to clear bone spurs and chips from the joint in his right elbow. He's expected to be out until at least late June. 

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Tuesday that pitcher Sergio Santos will have "minor" elbow surgery to clear bone spurs and chips from the joint in his right elbow, the Toronto Star reports. Santos has been out since the second week of the season because of a strained right triceps and is expected to be sidelined an additional six weeks following surgery.

Blue Jays reliever Sergio Santos (elbow) is expected to make an appearance in an extended spring training game Thursday, Sportsnet.ca reports. Santos has already participated in three bullpen sessions. 

Thursday will be his first test against live batters since being shelved with a right triceps strain. If everything goes smoothly for Santos over the next few weeks, the hurler could rejoin the Blue Jays in late May. 

He hopes to begin a rehab assignment next week with Class A Dunedin, though he still does feel some triceps discomfort. He calls it "manageable."

"We’re going to find out one way or the other," Santos said. "I don’t want to waste any more time. I want to get healthy. We’re going to push it."
