Indians manager Terry Francona said Monday first baseman Nick Swisher received a cortisone injection for his shoulder injury. He's expected to miss at least 2-3 more days and is hoping to return to the lineup Friday against the Twins.

Indians first baseman Nick Swisher was held out of the starting lineup Monday against the Royals for a second straight game because of a shoulder injury. Mark Reynolds once again replaced him at first base.

Swisher has gone 15 games without a multi-hit performance, batting .109 (6 for 55) in that span. His average has dropped from .278 to .237 in that span.

Indians first baseman Nick Swisher is dealing with a shoulder injury, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Sunday. Swisher was held out of the lineup, not due to rest, but because of his ailment. 

There is even a chance he could end up on the disabled list. Swisher aggravated the injury in the fifth inning of Saturday's loss to the Nationals. 

"I'm grinding guys," said Swisher. "I want to be in there every day regardless of what I got going on. Obviously, it's starting to physically show a little bit."

Swisher, who missed time earlier in the year with a shoulder injury, is in a 6-for-55 slump at the plate. 

"I just don't feel I have the thump in my swing," he said. "Whatever decision we make tomorrow, we are going to go at it full on."

The Indians gave first baseman Nick Swisher a day of rest Sunday after Swisher went 1 for 4 Saturday in a loss to Washington. 

Swisher struck out twice, but drove in his 24th run of the season. Swisher is batting .237 with seven homers and 33 runs scored. Slowly trying to get his bat back in order, Swisher has hit in five of his last six games. He's gone 5 for 23 (.217) over that span, and, sadly that is an improvement after he'd gone 1 for 32 (.031) in the nine games before that. 

Indians first baseman Nick Swisher continues to play through some knee soreness after he fouled a ball off that knee Sunday, MLB.com reports. That said, Swisher played Monday and was in the lineup for Tuesday's game as well. 

Manager Terry Francona said the Indians will just keep an eye on Swisher going forward. He went 1 for 3 Monday with a walk and a run scored. He's still yet to erupt out of a long slump that has him batting .240 on the year.
