Mariners' Rickie Weeks rips pinch hit home run Sunday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Mariners utility man Rickie Weeks went 1 for 2 at the plate Sunday with a home run in Seattle's 8-7 win over the Athletics in 10 innings. Weeks came up in the seventh inning to bat for Seth Smith and ripped the second pitch he saw from Eric O'Flaherty to center field, driving home Dustin Ackley and Mike Zunino.

"I knew I got it good, but here, you never know," he said to MLB.com. "It takes a pretty good poke to get it out in center, depending on what the wind is doing. So I didn't know. But it was obviously a situation where I wanted to come through."

It was Weeks' first home run of the year and first three RBI. He is now hitting .143 in 14 at-bats this season.

Mariners' McClendon: Rickie Weeks could see some work in RF
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon acknowledged that utility man Rickie Weeks could see some time in left field when Seattle faces left-handed pitchers, according to MLB.com. Weeks slid into the leadoff spot as the designated hitter, with Nelson Cruz moving to right field on Tuesday against the Angels.

"I'm sure he'll be fine," McClendon said. "He's had plenty of fly balls. He knows the speed of the game. He just didn't get a lot of action there in spring, but we can't run from that now. He'll play some left field, he's just not playing there today."

Mariners DH Rickie Weeks leading off Tuesday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

The Mariners made a slight adjustment to their lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels, according to MLB.com. Rickie Weeks will slide into the leadoff spot as the designated hitter, with Nelson Cruz moving to right field.

Weeks will be followed in the order by Austin Jackson, something manager Lloyd McClendon was experimenting with during spring training. Weeks has a career .256/.353/.445 slash line when batting leadoff in his career.
