32 Don Kelly, LF

Tigers outfielder Don Kelly got the scoring started Thursday, as he tied the game, 1-1, with a solo home run in the third inning.

That would be the extent of his contributions, as he went 1 for 4 with a run scored and one RBI, in a 10-4 loss. It was his first home run of the season, in 52 at-bats. 

Tigers outfielder Don Kelly will continue to play center field with Austin Jackson on the disabled list. 

Kelly will not take Jackson's spot in the lineup, however. Instead, he will bat eighth Tuesday against the Angels. Andy Dirks will be the team's leadoff hitter for the second straight game. Kelly is hitting .200/.294/.289 in 45 at-bats.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Monday that outfielders Don Kelly, Andy Dirks and Avisail Garcia could all see playing time in center field with Austin Jackson on the disabled list. Although, Leyland hinted Garcia could see the majority of starts in center field. 

"He’s going to play," Leyland told MLive.com. "I’ll put him in center against a right-hander. I’ll play him in center against left-handers. I don’t know how it’s going to work out. It could be Dirks, it could be Kelly. But I’m not going to move Torii over."

As for the leadoff spot in Jackson's absence, Leyland added Dirks would likely only hit leadoff against right-handed starters.

Tigers outfielder Don Kelly drew the start in center field Monday against the Astros after the team placed starting center fielder Austin Jackson on the disabled list with a pulled hamstring. Kelly is the only other player to start in center field for Detroit this season. 

Kelly entered play Monday batting .190 and mired in a 1-for-13 slump in his last seven games.
