Royals pitcher Chris Young suffers first loss of the season
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Royals pitcher Chris Young allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings of work in Kansas City's 4-2 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday.

Young had issues starting in the second inning when he allowed a solo home run to Brian McCann to lead things off. Then in the third, Young served up an 0-1 pitch to Alex Rodriguez, who blasted a three-run home run over the left field wall.

"It wasn't executed," Young said to MLB.com. "It was the right pitch selection, just not executed. That will happen.

"It's baseball. Some days that's a ground ball or it's taken. I'm not going to read too much into it. So be it."

Young, who also struck out seven with two walks, moved his record to 4-1 in defeat. Young, who now owns a 1.49 ERA, will look to bounce back on Wednesday against the Indians.

Royals' Chris Young making strong case to remain in rotation
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Royals veteran pitcher Chris Young turned in another outstanding performance Friday against the Cardinals, improving to 3-0 with a 0.40 ERA in four starts this season.

Young still could head back to the bullpen once Jason Vargas returns from an elbow injury, but manager Ned Yost said it's too early to make any decisions or assumptions

"I'm not even going there," Yost said, per MLB.com. "Nice try, though. When we get to the point where we have to make a decision, we'll do it like we always do. We'll sit down with the coaches, with [general manager] Dayton [Moore] and do what's right."

Young seems fine with whatever role the Royals ask of him.

"It doesn't matter to me," he said. "One thing the bullpen taught me is to make one good pitch at a time, take care of one batter at a time. The numbers all even out through time. I'm not worried or concerned about that. I just like the element of competition of being out there."

Royals pitcher Chris Young goes six innings in no-decision Sunday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Royals pitcher Chris Young allowed one run, not earned, on three hits in six innings of work in Kansas City's 2-1 win over the Tigers on Sunday in 10 innings, but did not factor into the decision.

Young's only blemish came in the third inning when Anthony Gose reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Ian Kinsler then singled him home for a run. Young, who also struck out three, did not surrender a walk on his 83 pitches.

Young, who remains, 2-0, lowered his ERA to 0.73 in 23 innings of work. He will look to keep rolling Friday against the Yankees.
