Royals SP Chris Young handed tough-luck loss on Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Royals right-hander Chris Young was solid in his start against the Twins on Saturday, but Minnesota came out on top in the 2-0 final. Young allowed one run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out two. The outing lowered his ERA to 2.64, but dropped his record to 7-4.

The only run Young gave up came on an RBI triple by Danny Santana in the fifth inning. Otherwise, the veteran righty was able to avoid any serious damage against him. Young has allowed fewer than two runs in four of his last six starts.

Royals SP Chris Young shines against the A's on Saturday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Royals starter Chris Young was terrific against the A's on Saturday. The right-hander allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out four, as he picked up his seventh win of the season.

Young (7-3) gave up an early run in the first, and another in the fifth, but was otherwise able to keep the A's in check all afternoon.

"I thought he threw great," manager Ned Yost said, per MLB.com. "He gave up two runs -- one on the error on Esky [Alcides Escobar] and then on the error he threw to third. They didn't knock in a run off him.

"He did a good job of making them chase up and then he'd come down. Go down and then chase up. Inside and outside. He was really good today."

This was a solid bounceback effort for Young, who had given up seven runs in his last start. His ERA sits at a nifty 2.71 mark for the season.

Royals SP Chris Young rocked for seven runs in loss
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer

Royals starting pitcher Chris Young didn't have his best stuff during Sunday's outing against the Red Sox.

Young threw 4 2/3 innings and was rocked as he allowed seven runs on seven hits. He gave up three home runs before being pulled from the game. On top of it all, Young allowed three walks while only striking out two batters.

"It wasn't horrible until the fifth. That's when I lost it," Young said. "I just couldn't execute and they're a hot-hitting club right now. It's a good offensive team. I just fell behind too much in the fifth."

Young, who picked up his third loss of the season, allowed over six runs for the second time this season. He has a 2.83 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings this season.

Royals' Chris Young earns win on mound, at plate
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Royals starter Chris Young won his second straight start, Tuesday over Milwaukee.

Young moved to 6-2 with seven scoreless innings. He allowed five hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out three.

Young also helped himself at the plate. He went 2 for 3 with three RBI.

Young became the first Royals pitcher to record three RBI in a game since Steve Busby, on Sept. 20, 1972. No Royals pitcher has had three RBI in a season since 2008.

Young's next start is Sunday, against Boston.
