Tigers' Justin Verlander will miss start Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander is not expected to pitch Thursday's spring finale as originally anticipated, MLB.com reports.

Verlander was lined up to start Thursday's game after suffering a triceps cramp Friday, but the probable pitcher notes for Thursday's game lists Shane Greene as the expected starter. However, he was able to light toss Sunday. If Verlander doesn't pitch by Friday, it's unlikely he'll be able to start the second game of the regular season.

"Once the soreness gets out of there, I've got to throw without soreness and get back into my throwing routine," Verlander said. "These are all things we'll have to address as it goes along. I really feel like today's like the crest of the wave. It's gotten a little bit better every day and I feel like today the soreness is just kind of in one spot. It should start to work itself out pretty quickly."

Verlander said that he did not throw Monday and will have to decide on a daily basis whether his triceps will allow him to throw.

Tigers' Justin Verlander feels better, light tosses Sunday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said pitcher Justin Verlander said he was feeling better Sunday, and Verlander was able to take part in light tossing, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Verlander left Friday's start due to cramping in his triceps. Ausmus said Saturday that there were no plans to send the pitcher for an MRI.

'No mention' of MRI for Tigers' Justin Verlander
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Justin Verlander was having his best outing of the spring on Friday before being forced to leave in the third inning with an arm cramp.

"The first couple were nice and easy," Verlander said, per MLive.com. "and then I threw a curveball and it just kind of felt like when I got extended that my tricep kind of grabbed on me a little bit. Then from that point on, the rest of the pitches I threw there was a similar feeling. When I got fully extended out, it just kind of felt crampy. It was weird. I've never really felt anything like that before. But it doesn't seem like anything serious."

On Saturday morning, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said that there has "been no mention" of an MRI for Verlander, per MLive's James Schmehl. "They're still quantifying it as a cramp."

Ausmus added, "As of right now, I have no reason not to expect him to pitch in his next start."

Verlander is scheduled to do light tossing in the next day or two to see how he feels, Asmus said.

Tigers SP Justin Verlander exits spring start with triceps cramping
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

With the start of the season getting closer and closer, the Tigers did not want to see starting pitcher Justin Verlander leave his spring start Friday against the Blue Jays early. Unfortunately, that is what happened.

The 32-year-old right-hander left Friday's start in the third inning due to injury after he was visited on the mound by manager Brad Ausmus, pitching coach Jeff Jones and the trainer.

The Tigers announced Verlander left the game with cramping in his right triceps. He will be re-evaluated Saturday, but the Tigers don't anticipate him missing his next spring start.

Verlander allowed one run on one hit and one walk in 2 2/3 innings. The Blue Jays got their lone run off Verlander on Dalton Pompey's solo home run in the second inning. He struck out two. Verlander has a 5.63 ERA through five spring starts.

Tigers' Justin Verlander gives up 3 homers in start
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander had a rocky start on Sunday.

Verlander gave up three home runs in four and a third innings, allowing five runs on five hits.

Michael Taylor homered off of Verlander to start the third and fifth innings. Ian Stewart added a home run to start the fourth inning.

Verlander also struggled with his control, throwing just 48 strikes in 79 pitches and walking two. He has a 6.08 ERA this spring, with five home runs in 13 and a third innings.

Despite the long balls, Verlander said his fastball was the best he's had since a start in Seattle on May 30 of last season, per Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press.
