| Miner makes first start since 2009: Royals minor leaguer Zach Miner made his first appearance in a game since October 2009 on Monday, tossing four innings for Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Miner, who is returning from Tommy John surgery, allowed two runs on four hits against Tulsa. He struck out one and didn't record a walk while tossing 60 pitches (40 strikes). "I feel good, really happy to be back out there again," Miner told MLB.com. "I was a little nervous since it had been so long since I pitched in a stadium with fans and everything, but I'm happy with it." (Updated 05/17/2011) |

| Miner retired the first seven batters he faced Monday before Tulsa got a hit. "My fastball command was pretty good, but I rely a lot on my changeup, which was kind of hit-or-miss," Miner said. "I hadn't thrown curveballs in extended [spring training] games, just in practice, but I thought it worked well tonight -- except for the one I hung for a home run." Miner isn't sure if the Royals envision him as a starter or reliever, but he still has a ways to go before he makes it back to the majors.
