Cubs pitcher Scott Feldman is having a breakout season but isn't doing anything drastically different.

Feldman is utilizing the same four-pitch mix he's always used. Aside from throwing his changeup less, Feldman's using most of his pitches at the same rate. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as Feldman has been fairly effective the past two years. Although he had a 5.09 ERA last year, his 3.98 FIP was a much better indicator on how he should have performed. He had an equally strong 3.99 FIP in 32 innings in 2011. 

Feldman is certainly pitching over his head, but could still post a solid ERA once regression hits. The bigger issue for Fantasy owners is whether he'll do enough to remain on teams once his ERA starts to rise. Feldman isn't a strong strikeout pitcher, and won't get Fantasy teams many points in that area. He could be a sell-high. Feldman will take on the Reds Friday.

Cubs starting pitcher Scott Feldman won his fourth decision in a row Saturday on the strength of six-plus shutout innings vs. the Mets.

Feldman scattered seven hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings, striking out six. He had four groundball outs and nine fly ball outs while throwing 68 of 109 pitches for strikes.

Feldman lowered his ERA to 2.19, and it was his fifth quality start in a row. He is 4-3 after losing his first three starts.

Despite the return of Matt Garza, Feldman will remain in the rotation. His next start is Friday against the Reds.

Feldman allowed a run on five hits and three walks and struck out six. Feldman has gone at least five innings with no more than two earned runs in his last five starts since two rough starts to open the season. Hhis ERA is 2.53.

With Matt Garza pitching at Triple-A Iowa and seemingly nearing a return from the disabled list, the Cubs have decisions to make in the rotation. According to the Chicago Tribune, Edwin Jackson, Travis Wood and Jeff Samardzija are not at risk of being sent to the bullpen upon Garza's return.

That leaves Scott Feldman and Carlos Villanueva as the two candidates for demotion when Garza re-joins the rotation. Both pitchers have been among the team's best, with Villanueva sporting a 3.02 ERA and Feldman down at 2.70.

At this point, it is not clear how many more minor-league rehab starts Garza is expected to throw.  

"Like I said, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it," Cubs manager Dale Sveum told the Tribune. "It's a nice problem to have, but it's getting closer to that date and it's not a cut-and-dried situation."
