Pitcher Scott Feldman steady for Astros in victory
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

Bouncing back from a rough outing six days ago, starter Scott Feldman had a workmanlike effort Sunday to pick up a victory in the Astros' 4-3 triumph over the Angels.

Feldman (1-2) threw six solid innings, giving up six hits and two runs without issuing any walks. Feldman closed out his outing in strong fashion, retiring the final seven batters he faced.

It was a nice turnaround from his last outing, in which he allowed seven earned run and 10 hits in five innings. Sunday's strong start dropped his ERA to 5.09.

"I felt like it was a battle and I still wasn't as crisp as I would like to throw," he told MLB.com. "I thought I was getting ahead of more guys today and had some trouble putting them away. It seems I wasn't giving up quite as much loud contact as I did last time."

Astros P Scott Feldman surrenders 10 hits Monday
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com

Astros pitcher Scott Feldman allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits over five innings of work during Monday's 8-1 loss to the A's.

"I don't think Feldman had his good stuff," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said, per the Houston Chronicle.

Feldman received the loss after he gave up three home runs and did not strike out a batter. He also walked one batter.

"No matter what happens, when I let the ball go I have to worry about making pitches, and I didn't do a good job of that tonight," Feldman said, per MLB.com.

Feldman's next start will likely be Sunday against the Angels.

Astros' Feldman puts behind awful spring to throw eighth straight QS
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Astros starting pitcher Scott Feldman came into his season debut Wednesday against the Indians coming off a rough spring training. Although he took the loss Wednesday, Feldman allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings during a 2-0 loss.

"I felt pretty good," Feldman said, per MLB.com. "I'll probably take nights like that most nights. I think we come out on top like that. Just going forward, hopefully, I can establish the counts a little better in my favor and get ahead of guys a little more often, first-pitch strikes. I think overall I threw the ball pretty well."

Feldman's only big mistake Wednesday came when he hung a 3-2 breaking pitch to Carlos Santana, who parked the pitch into the right-field seats for a solo home run.

"Really one pitch, an early recognized breaking ball to Santana, was the only misfire," manager A.J. Hinch said. "It was a really good outing by him. He had plenty left in the tank and was in complete control and missing bats and getting the ball on the ground. Just did a really, really good job of executing pitches."

Feldman finished the spring with a 6.87 ERA in 18 1/3 innings. However, Wednesday's start marked his eighth consecutive quality start dating back to last season. He has a 1.87 ERA in that span.

"Not to say spring training has no meaning, but I think really unless you're trying to make the team, you want to set yourself up to have a healthy season," he said. "I feel like I did that. My body feels good, my arm feels good, so once the real games start, I felt pretty confident I was going to be alright."

Astros' Scott Feldman takes tough-luck loss in debut
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Astros pitcher Scott Feldman surrendered just one earned run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings while striking out five Wednesday but still took the loss as the Astros fell to the Indians, 2-0.

Feldman put together a strong performance in his season debut Wednesday, but it wasn't enough to outpitch Carlos Carrasco, who struck out 10 Astros in 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Feldman is set to square off with the A's Monday.
