2 Ian Stewart, 3B

Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart is still dealing with his recent demotion, according to MLB.com.

Stewart accepted a demotion to the minors but hasn't been playing. The team is making sure Josh Vitters gets ample playing time, which has relegated Stewart to backup duties in the minors. Stewart said, "I'm over the not being in the big leagues part, now I'm just trying to put some good games together."

Stewart is no longer on the team's 40-man roster and doesn't figure into their future plans. He says he's thought about life after baseball and has begun taking on a mentoring role for the team's minor leaguers. 

Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said he isn't sure if Ian Stewart will be part of the team's future plans, MLB.com reports. Stewart, who is no longer on the 40-man roster after being designated for assignment, is just 4 for 46 at the plate over 15 games for Triple-A Iowa and is listed behind Josh Vetters at third base on the Iowa depth chart.

"I'm not sure,” Hoyer said. “I hope there is. I do think there’s a lot of talent there. It’s been an unfortunate run with the injuries. He’s a left-handed hitter with power who plays good defense. I hope there’s a future here but at this point, it’s going to be about performance. We want him to perform."
